Thats what they told me when I ran the serial number over the phone with the helpful folks at Sig. Its one year old, a P229.40 enhanced elite but they're telling me that it has an 'm1913 combat rail' on it from the factory. I've done a little bit of research and am I correct in thinking that the standard Sig rail isn't the standard rail for the rest of the world?
Anyways, I am REALLY having a hard time finding a holster that will fit this gun- the normal P229 paddles and what not are too small. Anyone got any experience with this? Thats what they told me when I ran the serial number over the phone with the helpful folks at Sig.

Anyone got any experience with this? The rail on most Sigs is not a standard rail. Some aftermarket accessories don't fit on the Sig's non-standard rail. Some fit but not very well. There are accessories that do. Depends on accessory and gun.
Sauer & Sohn 1913 Values
The non-standard rail Sig uses is curved on the bottom. A lot of people incorrectly refer to it as a 'Picatinny rail' but it is not.
The true Picatinny rail is flat-bottomed and conforms to military specific MIL-STD-1913.There was a Sig P229.40S&W special configuration that was produced for some military contract and there was a production overrun and some made it into the commercial market. I haven't seen any available myself. Has Elite beavertail, and true MIL-STD-1913 rail. It is a rare combination of options. Though the true Picatinny rail is available on other guns from Sig, this particular overrun is a rather rare combo of options. It was model 'E29R-40-MIL-TG'. Here is a link to a description with pics to see if it is yours:It may fit Fobus kydex holsters made for railed P229s. I think rail 229s use the same Fobus models as the railed P220 and P226.
The holsters were made for the Sig non-standard rail but I have tested my MK25 with true mil spec rail and it fits perfectly. Fobus doesn't mention the Picatinny models fitting but they do in the case of the P220 and P226. May be true for the railed 229.But there aren't many holster options available for railed P229s of any kind from what I've seen. Resurrecting an old thread I guess but I have recently aquired this same pistol in a local trade. Sig couldn't tell me much about it (go figure) except that it is in fact an over run from a contract with a German framed 1913 rail. When I asked them what the TG meant in the model labeling they told me Tru Glo which doesn't seem correct because front and rear sights are Siglites.
Oh well, it is what it is and I absolutely love the gun. It's wicked accurate for a 3.9' barrel. I've only put 150 rounds through it and the barrel hood doesn't have one mark and the end at lockup shows no smiley.
It is coated with an ion bond high polish. You would be hard pressed to find one of these on the market and if you do keep it! I passed one up on GunBroker a few months back that was LNIB or BNIB because I was afraid I would just leave it in the safe and never shoot it. I wish I had bought it.BTW: The 'G' on the end indicates that it was a production run made specifically for a 'Government' contract. No idea what the 'T' means, if anything.More often than not, the letters in the model ID don't really mean anything.
SIG has made so many variants of P226s, P229s and even P220s, that they kind of run out of options to uniquely identify the model in the limited space that they apparently have in their database from which they print the stickers for the box. So, sometimes, they just add a letter here-or-there to create a unique model designation. There are many variants of P226s that were produced with different combinations of options and rather try and determine a unique model ID for it, they just tack on 'SP' on the end, meaning 'Special Production'. With research, you will find MANY variations of options on P226s that were all produced with the same prefix, caliber indicator, and a simple 'SP' postfix to the model ID. Yet they all shipped with different options. To make a long story short (I know, too late), don't read too much into the model number.
